Access to sanitary pads is a basic necessity for girls and women around the world. However, in many low socio-economic communities, teen girls face immense challenges in affording these essential products, leading to the use of unhygienic materials and products during menstruation. 

Various studies have revealed that teen girls in low socio-economic communities cannot afford sanitary products and turn to use unhygienic materials and products.

International women’s day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity.

Calls have been intensified in recent times for government to make sanitary pads accessible and affordable to girls especially in the rural areas.

Girls Shall Grow, an Obuasi-based NGO has appealed to Government to consider supporting local firms to venture into the production of sanitary pads.  This they said will enhance access to Sanitary pads, especially at the rural areas.

Girls Shall Grow, a non-government organization based in Obuasi is organizing the first edition of the Living Right Conference this weekend. The event, which is themed, “The Unique Me” will bring together over 300 girls and seasoned women ministers in Obuasi.
